Both my kids have shown more confidence and I love how higher belts are earned not just given. Kids are not only expected to work hard on the mat but also encouraged to excel in school and have good attitudes.

Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Kids BJJ teaches children to control a situation instead of hitting their way out of it. They get stronger, calmer and more confident, and they learn to use technique instead of strength.
Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Control, not aggression
Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu helps children build confidence, coordination, focus, discipline and self-defense skills. Classes focus on safe grappling, movement, control and problem-solving, while introducing age-appropriate elements of Judo and Wrestling.
Students learn how to stay calm, follow directions, work with partners and use technique instead of strength. As Professor Cherry told WTOP, “We teach them to use jiu-jitsu techniques to control rather than to assault or hit their opponents.” The goal is children who are more confident, respectful and prepared.

What your child learns
- Safe falling, takedowns and grappling movement
- Holding and escaping positions with leverage, not size
- Staying calm and solving problems under pressure
- Respectful partner work and good sportsmanship
- Effort at school and a good attitude at home, not only on the mat
Confidence
Kids who can stay calm when someone is on top of them find the rest of life a little less scary.
Discipline
Higher belts are earned, not given, and kids are expected to work hard on the mat and do well in school.
Coordination
Rolling, bridging, sprawling and throwing build strength and body control that carries into every sport.

I did notice a massive change in behavior because the teachers and kids create a trend of discipline and working out which mirrored onto him.
Working with people who can see your strengths and weaknesses and then show how to use and improve them is exactly what Charles has done for me and my son.
FAQ
Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: your questions
Anything else, call (240) 286-5219 and a coach will help.
Will jiu jitsu make my child more aggressive?
No. Kids learn to control a situation, not to strike or punish. Respect, self-control and calm problem-solving are part of every class.
Is it safe?
Partner work is closely supervised and scaled to each child’s age, maturity and experience, and there is no unsupervised sparring.
What is the difference between Kids BJJ and the Bully Defense System?
Kids BJJ is grappling, with elements of Judo and Wrestling. The Bully Defense System teaches Boxing and Muay Thai fundamentals with a structured de-escalation method. Many families do both.
